“Vienna: The Heart of Music” – an evening of classical Viennese music.

 On July 24, the Church of St. Paul presents a new programme – Vienna: The Heart of Music – performed by a string quintet.

For several centuries, Vienna was the musical capital of Europe. It was here that Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Brahms, and Strauss created the works that continue to define our understanding of classical music.

The programme spans Viennese classicism in all its variety: from strict formal architecture to the intimacy of salon miniatures, from virtuosic brilliance to the irresistible spirit of the dance. Each composer engaged with this tradition on his own terms – and together they trace the arc of Viennese music across two centuries.

The string quintet is one of the most distinguished chamber formations, to which Mozart showed a particular devotion. In this ensemble, the fifth instrument is the double bass – adding a depth and gravity rarely found in chamber music.

The soaring vaults, carefully designed lighting, and visual projections reflect the character of the music and create an atmosphere that no concert hall can replicate.
