After years of intense activity, Rodrigo Amado’s main working band, Motion Trio, released it’s sixth album, Desire & Freedom (Not Two), acclaimed by audiences and critics alike as one of the strongest releases in Amado’s extensive discography and nominated record of the year by such important publications as The Wire Magazine and Spanish newspaper El País, among many others.

Featuring longtime friends and collaborators Miguel Mira (cello) and Gabriel Ferrandini (drums), Motion Trio has recorded or played with such distinguished improvisers as Jeb Bishop, Peter Evans, Steve Swell, Matthew Shipp and Larry Ochs, among many others, with the music resonating a profound musical empathy, strongly projecting a group sound where the spirit of bop and the fire of free are gathered under the sign of free improvisation and real time composition.

Nominated, for the fifth consecutive year, by the El Intruso International Critics Poll (more than 50 critics, from 18 countries) as one of the top 5 tenor saxophonists in activity, alongside the likes of Evan Parker, Joe Lovano, Ken Vandermark, Jon Irabagon, Ivo Perelman, Chris Potter and Ingrid Laubrock, Rodrigo Amado released last year "A History of Nothing" (Trost Records), the second album from the quartet he keeps with three of the most important figures of today’s creative jazz scene - Joe McPhee, Chris Corsano and Kent Kessler. With two new releases for 2019 – “No Place To Fall”, a duo recording with Chris Corsano, and “Summer Bummer”, the second album with Gonçalo Almeida and Onno Govaert – Amado prepares to tour extensively with his American quartet in Europe.

With this formation or fronting his celebrated Motion Trio, with cellist Miguel Mira and drummer Gabriel Ferrandini, Amado has been performing in innumerable Festivals and venues all over the world, such as Snug Harbor in New Orleans, Hideout in Chicago, The Stone in New York, Bimhuis in Amsterdam, DOM in Moscow, Jazz House in Copenhagen, Cafe Oto in London, Pardon To Tu in Warsaw, De Singer in Antwerp, Manufaktur in Stuttgart or the State Philharmony Hall in Oradea. His music has been object of hundreds of reviews in magazines, newspapers and blogs all over the world, and his work critically acclaimed in leading publications like The Wire magazine, El País and Folha de São Paulo newspapers, or the Bandcamp Daily online.

With a discography of 21 albums under his own name and participation in more than 30 others, he is unanimously considered one of the key players in European Jazz. As North-American critic Stuart Broomer writes in his liner notes for "This Is Our Language", "Amado is an emerging master of a great tradition, more apparent with each new recording or performance." And he goes on, about Amado’s sound: “There’s a rhythmic impetus, a bite in his sound, part grain, part beat, and it drives his lines forward, a sound and an impulse that are part him and part history, a fundamental impress on the world that tenor saxophonists like Coleman Hawkins, Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis, Sonny Rollins, and Archie Shepp have been making for generations.”

One of Europe’s premier free jazz bandleaders, pianist Alexander von Schlippenbach’s music mixes free and contemporary classical elements, with his slashing solos often the link between the two in his compositions. Schlippenbach formed The Globe Unity Orchestra in 1966 to perform the piece“Globe Unity, which had been commissioned by the Berliner Jazztage.

He remained involved with the orchestra into the ’80s. Vyacheslav Ganelin claims that he is able to make a composition of everything – even from inadvertent intonation or from mistakes. Not without reason the American magazine "Ear Magazine" once wrote: "Freud in psychology is the same as Ganelin in Soviet jazz." His name is known to jazz lovers for more than 45 years, since Ganelin created his legendary trio Ganelin-Tarasov-Chekasin, and during the post-Soviet period, where his trio was the symbol of breakthrough and pride, both in Israel, where Vyacheslav lived for thirty years, and around the world.

In general, Ganelin composed music for 60 movies, more than 40 theater plays, 6 musicals, 3 operas and a ballet. And of course, he has given many concerts and still is active all over the world.

Saxophonist, the Professor at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, Petras Vyšniauskas is one of the most important creative partners of the other members of the Ganelin Trio Priority, one of his most widely touring groups.

Vyšniauskas is one of the founders of the professional saxophone school in Lithuania. His victorious music career has lasted for more than three decades. He is the most titled jazz musician in Lithuania.

Vyšniauskas is a musician of exceptional versatility. He is at home not only in various styles of jazz, but also academic music – from baroque compositions to contemporary opuses dedicated to him; he also has composed music for many theatre productions and feature films. His discography includes over 60 albums.

The saxophonist has collaborated with a great number of celebrated jazz, classical and folk musicians including Prague Philharmonic and New York St Luke Symphony orchestras, Paris Radio and New York Metropolitan Opera choirs, folk singer Veronika Povilionienė and birbynė player Antanas Smolskus, jazz guitarist Fred Frith, pianists Bob Stenson and Karl Berger, saxophonists Steve Lacy and Charlie Mariano, double bassists Kent Carter and Vladimir Volkov, trumpeters Tomasz Stańko and Herb Robertson, drummers Han Bennink and Klaus Kugel.

Deniss Pashkevich is one of the most famous jazz musicians in Latvia - saxophonist, flutist, composer, producer, ad-libber, educator and a prominent figure in the Baltics jazz with his name included in the European Jazz Tree. He gained his education both in classical and modern rhythmic directions. Deniss is inspired by the music of John Coltrane. He is an official artist-endorser of eight companies, as well as Art Director for “Riga Winds” saxophones (UK/Latvia). In 2017 his album “Yours Faithfully” won a Latvian Grammy as the best Blues & Jazz album.

Arkady Gotesman - one of the most famous jazz musicians in Lithuania. Being a drummer and composer, poet and director, educator and producer, creator of Vilnius Klezmer’s orchestra and artistic director of two musical festivals, and also a taper who adores silent cinema, he is fascinated by both fresh ideas and craftsmanship to embody these ideas.
